Millmont/Gleniron Covered Bridge
The Millmont Red bridge (also known as the
Glen Iron bridge) was built in 1855 using the Burr arch truss design, the bridge
crosses Penns creek in Union county.
Length: 154 ft/. The builder is unknown. This is the longest bridge in Union
county, and with the long horizontal siding it looks even longer. There
are no windows and the only openings are the side openings under the eves of the
sheet metal roof. It has been closed to traffic of of October 1998. The bridge
is in good condition with the exception of the cement block at the entrance
which causes an eye sore to such a beautiful structure, I personally
believe other means could have been adopted to stop traffic from going
over the bridge so as to keep its beauty. Some graffiti can also be found. I
have taken the time to touch up the photos so as to hide the vandalism .Location: On Township Route 320, just south
of State Route 3004, approximately 1.5 miles southwest of Millmont in Hartley
Township.
